A (sort of) Collection

Well, here i am with some better photos of my first mini collection. It has not an exact theme, rather some things in common, like the many mini dresses and the importance of the accessories. If it had a title it would be something like " it's all in the accessories" i think!

Have i told you i love leather? I am a jewelry designer, and for the past six years leather has been my favorite material.  It is amazingly versatile, it can be hard or soft, structured or raw in free forms, chic, ethnic, punk, cute, colored, painted, laced... Whatever one can imagine, it can be done with leather.
It was only natural for me to start using it for the dolls.
So another permanent element in my doll work its leather. In form of  everything. Shoes and bags and belts obviously, but also jewelry, hats, clothes, swimming suits and dollhouse items.

The collection photoshoot was another field of experiment (rather frustration!) for me.
I decided to keep it simple , with plain props, also because i could not deal with another creative project right now.. But i have plans! oh,well , i think it is working as  is for the moment...

Please don't let me be misunderstood.
I love  , respect and appreciate the opposite sex.
I swear i  have never considered them being objects.
But what my girls think is completely different
I do not know if their attitude came as a reaction to a
sentimental wound of some kind
or if it is pure materialism,
the fact is that they are incurably cynical.
This was not a photoshoot.
I just documented  some of their everyday moments.

Sort Of Intro

Adele's partial repaint and haircut by me

As mentioned in the title, this is a blog about aiming to the impossible: bringing dolls into life...
I collect and play with dolls for the past 9 years.
It started in December 2000 when i decided to make a diorama for my jewelry shop window.
I found the furniture, a Christmas tree and decorations and then i needed people..
So i went shopping having vaguely in mind the barbies. I hadn't seen a barbie since the 80's.
I enterend the toy store, went to the barbie section and saw ...the collectibles. That was it! I was hooked! I bought two, then the next day i bought two more , and by the end of the week i owned every collectible doll they had.
Then some day i saw an articulated playline ballerina. OMG! Articulation? This was Heaven!
I took home six identical dolls. I needed bodies for my collectibles.
That day begun the obsession of customizing. I started swaping heads and parts, cutting hair ,repainting,( scary..) making shoes and clothes, rooms and furniture and doing anything possible to make my dolls look more human.
Today's dolls have incredible articulation and realistic faces but its impossible to stop myself from customizing . I am officially addicted!
